The Heartbeat of Bellydance

Spend a weekend immersed in the magic of Arabic rhythms with the drumming of masterful darbuka player, Tarek el Halabi!

Tarek el Halabi was born in Damascus, Syria. At the tender age of 10, fascinated with the sounds of the darbuka, he started playing with the drum on his own. When he was 12, he began what was to be 4 years of study at the Damascus Music Conservatory.

Soon, the talented young man was performing with the Damascene orchestra, El Nojum, with Master Hady Bakdunes. Besides the orchestra, Tarek has also played for renowned singers such as Fadl Shaker, Mayada and Asala Nasry.

An experienced teacher, Tarek began his teaching career in the academy of Damascus in 1998. At the age of 21, he left Syria for Venezuela, where he performed and taught for a year at the Syrian Center in Barinas. Among the other countries he has performed in are France, Holland, Turkey and Lebanon.

Tarek is now based in Spain, where he teaches, performs and collaborates regularly with bellydancers. He is also in the process of recording his own CD.
