About Siryn

Siryn is a dancer from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, now residing in Linköping, Sweden.

Primarily a performer of Middle Eastern or Oriental dance (more popularly known as bellydance), Siryn specialises in a fusion of the classical Egyptian (raqs sharqi) and her own personal style.

However, she believes that learning is a never-ending process. She constantly seeks to educate herself in, and experience as much as possible, all forms of bellydance, including regional styles, as well as Middle Eastern folk dances.

Siryn has attended workshops conducted by internationally renowned teachers such as Mahmoud Reda, Nour, Camelia, Mercedes Nieto, Aida Nour, Zahra, Zeina Abou Shebika, Liza Laziza, Asmahan, Aziza (Canada/USA), Yousry Sharif, Hossam och Serena Ramzy, Tito, Prince Kayammer, Magdy El Leisy, Virginia, Ahmed Fekry, Sadie (USA), Bellydance Superstars Jillina, Tamalyn Dallal, Kaeshi and Sharon Kihara, as well as Morocco (New York), among others. She has also taken workshops and classes in other dance genres, such as Persian classical and other dances from Iran, Odissi (under the renowned Sutra Dance Theatre), Bollywood and contemporary dance.

In September 2010, she also organized, participated in and facilitated darbuka and dance workshops conducted by master darbuka player Tarek Halabi (Syria/Spain) to improve her knowledge of Arabic rhythms and improvisation to live drumming.

PERFORMING EXPERIENCE

Siryn has performed before the Queen of Malaysia and other Malaysian royalty, as well as at product launches and corporate events for international and regional companies such as SEB, Linköping University, RFSU, Kinda kommun, Chanel, Siemens, NTV7 (Malaysia), Astro, Experian Asia Pacific, Health Today magazine, Carlsberg, Kurnia Asia and UCSI (University College Sedaya International), among others.

She has also danced at festivals and events such as Levande Torg: Folkkonstens dag (Kisa), Humanistdygnet (Linköping), Dance in the City (Linköping), Dansens Vecka i Östergötland, Första Lördan (Linköping), Linköpings Stadsfest, and Afro-Asian Festival (Stockholm), as well as many weddings, birthdays and other private parties.

Siryn has also co-organised many dance events at L'Orient restaurant in Linköping.
